Oregon Notice Regarding the Sale of Renovated Mattresses

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has required the Mattress Recycling Council Oregon, LLC (“MRC”) to notify all retailers participating in MRC’s Oregon mattress stewardship program (“Program”) that Oregon consumers must not be charged a mattress stewardship assessment (the fee) when purchasing a renovated mattress or foundation. However, retailers must continue to report the number of renovated units sold each month.

Additionally, DEQ has instructed MRC to inform retailers who have collected the stewardship assessment (the fee) on any renovated mattress or foundation to issue a refund to the consumer.

This notification does not change any other obligations for reporting or collection of fees under the Program. MRC will update retailers if there is any change to this policy.
